The Pastor’s Paragraphs…

So, I was sitting on my deck in the cool of the morning, surrounded by flowers and chattering animals, clipping my toenails (as you do.) My mind must have been reasonably clear and my attention reasonably sharp – like said toenails before my ministrations – because I caught a tiny movement in a patch of pansies nearby. I thought for a moment that a sliver of toenail had flung itself into the pot. Then the sliver moved and I realized it was a baby praying mantis.

Tiny doesn’t begin to describe it. The little tyke was smaller and seemed less substantial than my podiatric claws. And my attention seemed to alarm it; after several seconds of my face inches from its own, it scurried out of the pot and down the back side to hide.

I preach a lot about slowing down, getting still, paying attention to what’s in this present moment, maybe because I find those practices so difficult, yet uniquely rich when I do manage them. For me, they so often involve our world’s creepy crawlies, because (June bugs, Japanese beetles, and some paper wasps notwithstanding) they are smart enough to stay away from us when we’re whirling around like Tasmanian devils.

Once, sitting in an atrium on a silent retreat, I watched a striped spider spin a wee web on a sansevieria right next me. Her industriousness, having nothing whatsoever to do with anything I will ever achieve or contribute in my life, gave me space to pause. Those minutes with her helped me appreciate how everything wonderful in this world does not depend on me, how God cares for so many different creatures in ways I don’t understand, how Jesus himself relied on respite, quiet, and solitude to reground in God’s presence and recharge his compassion for people and his passion for teaching and miracle-working.

These encounters minister to my spirit and equip me to live my life with greater humility, peace of mind, and hope. As we enter the summer season, I pray that God gives you holy pause – and the wisdom to accept it – so you, too, can rest and recover your sense of belovedness and belonging. I look forward to hearing about your experiences!

Adult Christian Formation at Trinity: Summer 2026

Read the Gospels in Ninety Days!

“Jesus loves me, this I know; for the Bible tells me so.” But do we really know what the Bible says about Jesus and his love? Join fellow seekers and Pastor Macc for a summer discussion series on the four Gospels. We will read privately and devotionally during the week, then gather to learn and support each other’s commitment to know our sacred story for ourselves.

By July 4, we will have read Matthew and Mark. By the end of Balloon Fest, we’ll be through Luke. We’ll bring it home with John before Labor Day!

You’ve been meaning to read the Bible – Get started this summer! Faith-building is better together!

Saturdays through August 29 – Via Zoom 9:30-10:30 am and in person at TUPC SW room of PATH 11 am-noon.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Quilting Ministry – Want to help one of our international ministries but don’t know how to sew? Help with laundry instead! Pick up a bag of fabric today to wash at home, then return to the church office to be made into blankets for people in need.

HSY Worktrip 2026 – CIA is traveling to Arvada, CO in the Denver area, from June 19-26 for our mission trip to The Rising Church/Mission Arvada. “The mission has a food pantry and wraparound services that offer mental health, medical & dental services, social assistance, legal help, transportation and workforce opportunities. At the day shelter, clients are allowed to shower, two hot meals, laundry services and access to the clothing bank.” They’re hoping we can also help clean the nursery, help with landscaping, clean closets, etc. It sounds like we’ll be busy. Please keep our group in your thoughts and prayers! We’re so appreciative of all you do for us and for all of your support!

Directory Update – Please take a moment to look at your listing in the Membership Directory. If you would like to make a change, please call or email the church office. Thank you.

Martha Circle and Synod School 2026 invite you to a very special party! Over 22 million people in the U.S. experience “period poverty” – the inability to afford or access hygiene products needed to manage menstruation. Period poverty keeps girls from attending school and forces tough financial choices between hygiene supplies and other expenses like food, utilities and rent. The average cost of menstrual products is $13.25 a month ($6,000 per lifetime), a figure out of reach for 40% of people who menstruate.

Join Martha Circle and Pastor Macc after worship on July 12 for a brief presentation on period poverty, followed by a Period Pack Packing Party! Together, we will pack 50 individual bags with a week’s worth of menstrual supplies for distribution to people in need. We will then deliver the completed “period packs” to Synod School as part its annual mission project benefiting Church World Services. Come learn and spread the love!

What is this Generosity Team we keep hearing about? We have renamed the I&S Team, otherwise known as Interpretation and Stewardship Team, as the Generosity Team. You may be asking why? Christian Stewardship is not just about a fundraising campaign for a few months each year in order to pay the bills. Generosity and gratitude are profound spiritual disciplines with the power to change lives. The Generosity team is focused on not just raising money for Trinity, but also on opening our eyes and hearts to the giftedness in each of us to God’s delight and glory.

To this end, we have created volunteer registry binders, strategically located in seven places around the church and PATH. In the PATH they are located in the copy room, downstairs and in the SW room. The church locations are in the kitchen, atrium, tech booth and choir room. So, if you are sewing quilts, drinking coffee with the men, enjoying Third Thursday at Ten, present for PW meetings, serving SWAT meals, changing light bulbs, singing in choir, playing in the praise band or anything where you are volunteering your time, we ask for you to write it down. And if not everyone in attendance wants to sign their name, one person in the group can record the activity and how many are in attendance.

I think we are all going to be astonished at how many volunteer hours are spent at Trinity, and if this encourages others to volunteer their time, we would love to have you! Please keep an eye out in future newsletters and bulletins for upcoming activities being planned throughout the year.

God Bless, Barb Yearous – Generosity Team Moderator
